KARIUS
& BAKTUS
by Thorbjorn Egner
The
play that happens inside the mouth
The
story of Karius & Baktus has become a classic in Scandinavia
and diverse countries all around the world. Its unique quality lies
in telling a captivating story while focusing strongly on dental
health education at the same time. It teaches without preaching.
The
play is now being shown for the first time in the UK. Little Troll
Productions use 3D animation, physical comedy and music to transform
school halls into theatrical arenas to captivate the imagination
of 4-8-year-old children so that they will remember the important
oral hygiene message along with a lot of fun.
THE
STORY:
The play tells the story of the two little ‘tooth trolls’,
Karius & Baktus, who live inside tooth cavities in the mouth
of a little boy called Jack.
Jack loves sweets but hates brushing his teeth. This creates perfect
living conditions for Karius & Baktus (caries & bacteria),
who happily hack away at Jack’s teeth until the day his toothache
becomes so unbearable that Jack’s mother decides it’s
time to visit the dentist...
WHO
IS KARIUS & BAKTUS FOR:
The play is aimed at Key Stage 1 and the younger Key Stage 2 (Reception
class and Years 1, 2, 3 & 4).
This is an ideal age for emphasising dental education, since the
children are in the process of shedding their milk-teeth.
The
play takes 35 minutes in performance, and at the end there is a
question & answer session to consolidate the learning.
Schools will receive material in advance of the project visiting,
and at the end the children receive fun items to show to their parents
and remember the project by.
